Although the shown barbecue is a standard stainless-steel barbecue, the techniques can be used for any barbecue. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions if you have them.
Material Request For Clean BBQ
A few newspapers
Latex gloves
A bucket of soapy tap water
A water hose
Oven cleaner
A barbecue scraper/ brush
A sponge with an abrasive backing
A scouring pad
Step 1
Turn off your propane or gas barbecue’s fuel source. If your barbecue has burner covers, open the barbecue cover. Use a scraper/brush to remove any ash or residue from the grills.
Step 2
Clean the burner covers with a bucket of warm water. Rinse and dry. Place the grills on several layers of newspaper, on a surface that you can hose off later like a driveway.
Step 3
Spray oven cleaner onto both sides of the grills according to the instructions on the can. Let the caustic cleaner “work” according to the label instructions. Use latex gloves to protect your skin and eyes from the oven cleaner’s residue. Avoid inhaling the fumes.
Step 4
Use latex gloves to remove the baked-on residue from the grills using the scraper/brush.

Step 5
After you have removed most of the material, you can use a scouring tool to remove stubborn matter. After you are done scrubbing the grills, rinse them with clean water. If your barbecue comes with an ash tray, slide it out or take it off and place the contents in a trash can. Use a brush or a scraper to scrub the tray. Rinse it off with soapy water.
Step 6
You will need to clean the burners if they aren’t working properly. Use a wire brush to scrub the surfaces. Next, locate the screw or cotter that holds each burner in its place and take it out. Simply lift the burner. Use a paperclip to remove any obstructions from gas ports.
Step 7
All components should be replaced. To clean barbecue surfaces, use a sponge and warm soapy water. Non-toxic stainless steel cleaners can also be used to remove grime. To remove stubborn stains and residue, you can use the abrasive end of an abrasive sponge (not SOS or steel wool) to gently scrub. You must be careful not scratch the finish. Rinse the surface with water and dry it using a clean cloth.
Barbecue Care
It’s essential to clean and maintain a barbecue grill after it has been used. After cooking, take out all food, then cover the barbecue with a lid. The barbecue will continue to cook on high for 5-10 minutes. Let the grill cool, then scrub it with your barbecue brush.
Avoid bacterial contamination by cooking only on a clean, well-heated grill. After it has heated up, place the food onto it.
Gas grills should be turned off periodically. Also, make sure to check the burner openings for any meat drippings. To clean them, you can use a brush or a paperclip.
