Clean refrigerators are not only beautiful to look at, but also make meal planning and preparation a lot easier. This task can be incorporated into your weekly grocery shopping list and will make it easy to see what’s in your fridge.
Empty Your Refrigerator
Take everything out, check dates, and decide if you don’t want to use it.
Anything with an expired expiration date or that is beyond its prime should be thrown out. If you have to, bring your garbage can to the refrigerator.
Place Items That Will Be Returned To The Fridge Categories
I segregate these by savory or sweet.
Fruits, vegetables, drinks, leftovers and meal prep condiments, dairy – whatever makes the most sense for you and your family.
If Possible, Remove Shelves And Drawers
Take them to the sink, wash or wipe clean, and dry thoroughly.
If you don’t know how to remove a shelf or drawer, do a quick internet search of your refrigerator model and you maybe could find a YouTube tutorial.
Cleanse The Refrigerator Thoroughly
I use warm water and a small bowl to mix the dish soap and water. If the fridge smells, you can add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water/soap combination.
For Difficult Spots, Use A Toothpick
A toothpick is a good option if you are unable to get things stuck in seals or crevices. To prevent any damage or breakage, make sure the toothpick is used parallel to the crevice.
When you are putting your food back, make sure it is in the right places for your food needs. This is a good idea before you load up your fridge with your weekly groceries. Now, You can ready for the grocery store to fill up the shelves again!
You can wipe down your fridge weekly while you are doing grocery lists/menu planning. This will allow you to keep your fridge clean and reduce food waste.
